Medallion Center
History
Like the city it serves, Medallion Center has grown quite a bit since it opened in 1962. Developed by prominent Dallas land developer W.W. Caruth, Jr, it was named for original anchor-tenant Medallion Department Store.
Several local and national retailers and restaurants soon followed. Medallion Barbers opened for business in 1966 and has been a tenant ever since. In 1976, Target took over the Medallion Department Store space. Blockbuster Video opened its very first store in the Center in 1985 and was a tenant for some 25 years.
Medallion keeps evolving and improving. New buildings and landscaping were added to the property five times between 1963 and 1987. The Center underwent a major makeover in 2006 as Kohl’s replaced the historic Medallion theater, which in 1975 hosted the premiere screening of Steven Spielberg’s classic film Jaws.
In 2024, the Center completed another major exterior renovation and added several exciting new tenants–including Down to Play Indoor Playground, Yardstick Dog Hotel, and Ruchlin’s Taekwondo.
Medallion’s unique history makes it more than a shopping destination; it’s a Dallas icon.
